You know how you get a song stuck in your head? And it bounces around like an out-of-control pinball?
This is what is happening to me today. And the song is courtesty of Delaney. My three year old LOVES to sing. (even when she is in trouble. Imagine her sitting in her room, voice wavering from crying, “I waaaant to be niiiiice to my little broooother. I waaaant to plaaaay wiiiith myyyy frienddddds.)
Now, if you are a Chicago Cubs fan (which my family is NOT), today’s song will be one you know. It is sung at Wrigley Field after a Cubs win. When the WHOLE stadium is singing, it actually sounds pretty cool. (I could get in trouble with St. Louis Cardinal Nation for even thinking that!)
It goes like this: ” Go Cubs Goooo, Go Cubs Goooo, Hey Chicago, whaddya say? The Cubs are gonna win today.” Now, Delaney has been well coached. She is aware that rooting for the Cubs is against family traditions. So, all by her sweet self, she changed the words.
“Go Cubs Gooooo, Go Cubs Goooo, Hey Chicago, whaddya say? The Cubs are gonna LOSE today.”
It makes me laugh. Or at least it did when she first sang it. And it did for the first dozen times it replayed in my head, and the next dozen times, I cracked a smile, but I think now it is getting a bit annoying.
Yet, it is still in my head. “Go Cubs Goooooo…..”
Update: July 10, 2008: I feel compelled to add a little something to this post as it is now getting close to 100 hits a day…I’m assuming from Cub fans. Welcome Cubbies. My husband would scoff at a welcome…and now my son has learned to sing “Lose, Cubs, Lose”…..however, since we’re Cards fans…and we aren’t ahead of you at this point, I suppose I can’t say too much…..except, “Happy 100 year Anniversary”
(And I type that with a smile…so, don’t get too mad!)

I was actually corrected by my husband…our little song should start, “Lose, Cubs Loooooose….”
I am from New York state. I hate the Yankees almost as much as the Mets. I love the Cubbies, and have for decades. I have two little girls, 4 and 2, who love to watch baseball with me. Almost every day (or night), they sit in my lap (one on each leg) and watch our beloved cubbies. Today, we watched the Cubs, who happen to have the best record in the National League, beat St. Louis 7-1. If you were to ask my big girl what her favorite song is, she’d sing the entire song to you, and her baby sister would join in.
GO CUBS GO!!!
Hey, Thanks for Edmunds! Go CUBS!
